Son of a Preacher Man – Cover Reveal

Today I have prepared one of my favourite posts!! Karen Cox will re-release a Pride and Prejudice inspired romance set in a different era and today she is visiting From Pemberley to Milton with the cover reveal of the new book Son of a Preacher! Everyone knows how much I love covers, so you may imagine how happy I am to be a part of this cover reveal! I will also be very eager to read it as never read At the Edge of the Sea. There is also an additional bonus, Karen decided to share with all of you an excerpt of the upcoming release, and I hope you all enjoy it 🙂

Thank you so much for letting me visit with you and your readers today! I’m really excited about the upcoming summer release of Son of a Preacher Man. It’s a special book for me, an original story inspired by Pride and Prejudice, that was originally published as At the Edge of the Sea in 2013. For its five-year birthday, I’ve re-edited it, given back its original title, Son of a Preacher Man, and with the help of Shari Ryan, of Madhat Covers, and Joshua Hollis, who created the image, I’ve given it a new cover too.

(Intro) One of the most important people in Lizzie’s life is her “older and wiser friend”, Mrs. Gardener—a widow who makes homeopathic remedies for the good people of Orchard Hill. Billy Ray finds out about their friendship one hot, summer morning when he goes over to Mrs. G’s house to retrieve a “potion” for one of the doctor’s patients.

I walked out into the hot sunshine—four blocks down to the intersection of Cavanaugh and Adalia—and began counting house numbers. I remembered that I’d run across Lizzie Quinlan walking down this street a couple of days ago. We had nodded and greeted each other, and when I turned back around, curious to see who she might be visiting, I saw her disappear into the house I was standing in front of now.

Mrs. Gardener’s house was a pristine, white dwelling with blue shutters and a picket fence. No sinister wisps of smoke or noxious odors greeted me when I stepped up to the porch, so I knocked on the door.

Through the open window, I heard a melodious alto call out. “Can you get that door for me, honey? I’m elbow-deep in brew right now.”

The door flew open.

“Billy Ray!”

“Lizzie?”

“Um, hi.”

“Hi.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I came to pick up something for”—I looked down at my note—“Mrs. Long.” I handed her the paper. “Doc wrote it down for me.”

She took it and stepped back from the door. “Okay, I’ll let Mrs. G know. Come on in.” I followed her, taking in the pretty, blue sundress she wore and the ever-present bouncing ponytail. It looked like she had new shoes too, some kind of strappy, white leather with a buckle.

“You look nice.”

She smiled, and I was rewarded with sparkly, fireworks eyes. “Thanks.”

 

 

Award-winning author, Karen M Cox, writes fiction brushed with history and romance. She specializes in 20th century Austenesque tales in small town settings: 1932, Find Wonder in All Things, Undeceived, and I Could Write a Book. She has also dabbled in Regency tales: Her Frank Churchill story, “An Honest Man,” appears in the anthology, Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen’s Rakes and Gentlemen Rogues, and she has a short story in the upcoming collection, Rational Creatures.

Although born in Washington state, Karen has enough Southerner in her—due to family history and a long residence in Kentucky—to ask young people in her small town, “Do I know your mama?” with a straight face. She lives there with her husband, encourages her children (who, thankfully, aren’t too far away), and spoils her granddaughter.
