When Duty Calls By Belén Paccagnella – Cover Reveal

Good Afternoon everyone,

After doing the cover reveal of Obstacles, Belén Paccagnella’s debut book, I was very pleased to be invited by Meryton Press to repeat the feature and bring you all the cover of Mrs Paccagnella second novel! When Duty Calls will be available for pre-order today and unlike Obstacles its action takes place in 1812.

The book explores a forced marriage scenario and I’m quite interested in seeing how Mrs Paccagnella will elaborate this plot. Will Elizabeth slowly fall for Darcy? Will she blame him for what has happened? Whatever path Mrs Paccagnella decides to take, it will be perfect for me because I am a huge fan of forced marriage scenario books 🙂

Want to know more about this story? Check out the blurb:

The Netherfield ball brings about many changes for the population of Meryton, and more so for the female residents of Longbourn. Mr. Bingley’s departure leaves the eldest, Jane Bennet, heartbroken whilst Mr. Collins’s proposal induces Miss Elizabeth to make a hasty escape. During her flight, she happens upon Mr. Darcy, a gentleman she despises. A moment of solitude in the woods leads to rather improper behavior, and the couple departs with the promise they will tell no one about their minor indiscretion. When their secret is finally uncovered, marriage becomes the only solution to saving Elizabeth from social disgrace. Her other grudges against Mr. Darcy are amplified by resentment and the prospect of spending her life with a man she can never respect. Nonetheless, the marriage takes place, forcing the young couple to deal with their pride and prejudices as husband and wife.

Originally posted online almost twenty years ago, this Regency tale of redemption narrates the struggles of two people, their differences, and their rocky start. But will they succeed in overcoming lies, misunderstandings, and their own errors to finally find love?

What do you think? And did you know this book was written over 20 years ago? That’s impressive isn’t it? And I bet it still has that feeling that books written in the beginning of JAFF had 🙂

But today we are not here to talk about such things, share any excerpt that may give you an idea of what to expect, nor to talk about the creative process behind the book. We are here to talk about one of my favourite things: Covers! If you want to have a sneak peek at the story, I invite you to visit Meryton Press’s site as their authors have been sharing their favorite romantic scenes there, and today it is Belen Paccagnella’s turn to do so. She chose a scene from When Duty Calls, so all you need to do is click on this link and get directed to this first scene of this hot new release 🙂

Here at From Pemberley to Milton, we will be focusing on covers, and this one is incredibly beautiful and the classic painting demonstrates an incredible taste in my opinion. It also appears to reveal a little of what we will find in the book, and if it does, I wonder how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth found themselves in this position if their feelings were not yet fully developed.

But what am I doing?! Talking to you as if you’ve seen the cover already…Well…here it is 🙂

What do you think? Don’t you think the faint colours in the path and grass give this cover a lot of elegance? What about the back cover? Do you think it will reveal something else? Let’s see!

What do you think this back cover means? Who are all those people in the picnic? And where are they? Is that at Pemberley? I really loved the type of painting that was chosen for this cover. Even if the style is not impressionist, some of the brush strokes do remind me a little of it, and the amount of detail we see in the back cover is very alluring! This is certainly one of the books I would love to possess on paperback 🙂

Have you noticed that small heart token in the spine? I bet it means something too! Now all we need to do it read it to find out exactly what it means 😉

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Belén Paccagnella discovered the world of Jane Austen fan fiction after watching the 1995 BBC miniseries of Pride and Prejudice. In her teens, she lived in Brazil when her family moved to the city of Curitiba due to her father’s work. She moved back to Buenos Aires a few years later, where she studied agronomy but finally pursued a different career and started working in the development and administration of shopping centers.
In 2001, she began writing both Regency and modern stories, adapting the Pride and Prejudice storyline to different backdrops, merging drama, humor, and adventure while creating characters with unique traits. Almost two decades later, she published Obstacles, a modern variation released in 2018 by Meryton Press.
Belén still lives in the suburbs of Buenos Aires where she shares her home with her pets while spending her time working, reading, and writing.

I love the delicate and gentle feel of this cover. I know there will be angst within the leaves gently composed…but the look is so warm! Beautiful work here. Another Janet Taylor original.

Such a gorgeous cover and I’m with you Rita in that I love FMS.
Luckily I won a book from Meryton Press ages ago and I chose this one so I look forward to reading it.
I have no ideas re the picnic, who’s entertaining the group? Who’s the older lady? Stumped!

I agree! That is one gorgeous cover both front and back. I love how it meshes so well when opened up like that.
Ha, its fun to speculate what sort of feel the writing will have since the story is twenty years old. I look forward to reading it.

Hi Kelly, I used to be very active on the boards and posted 6 stoRies. WDC was the first one. I always thought of publishing but then life got in the way and I took a break from JAFF. It’s nice to be back and receive all the love from you all!

    Hi Rita,

What a lovely cover. Yes,it reminds me of an impressionist
painting. I love the locket and the casualness of the
picnic, even if one of the party is causing a bit of noise
    pollution.
    Looking forward to reading this.
    Cheers for sharing.

I thought I’d read all Belén’s online stories, but it was a while ago. I didn’t remember a Regency FMS, one of my fave types of story. I look forward to getting into this one, that’s for sure, and my start was that Meryton Press blog “Romantic Scenes” excerpt. Thanks!

Love the Janet Taylor cover. It’s so soft and yet alluring. The front scene has that magic in it and the back does such a good job of showing a summer picnic, which can be a wonderful dramatic opportunity for a writer.

Have a fun blog tour, Belén. I look forward to following it. Thanks for hosting once again, Rita!

Thank you Susan! The cover is just amazing, Janet did a great job. There will be some romantic scenes in the blog tour, and I’ll also post some not so romantic deleted scenes. I love angst so you’ll have a bit it that too 😉

What a beautiful cover. The colors are amazing. Wow! Congratulations on getting this published, Belen. I know you are excited. Rita, how neat that you get to do the cover reveal. They are so much fun. I wouldn’t mind having a print of that picture. It is so… it just draws you in and makes you want to be a part of their group. Thanks for sharing this post with us.

I’m echoing everyone else, I love the beautiful cover, I love the premise of the story, and I congratulate Belén on the publication of this work. I’m so glad you decided to bring it to the JAFF world again.

I know that Janet Taylor is one cover artist that devotes as much artistry to the back cover as to the front. And it’s at these times that I miss purchasing paperbacks. With ebooks you just don’t get that gift. So Rita, having you do the cover reveal is appreciated so much for showing the entire cover front and back. Thank you.

Thank you Meredith, editing this story has been a challenging and rewarding process. I met delightful people along the way and made new friends. As you said Janet is truly devoted to her artistry. This cover is just superb. It reflects the story but in a lighter way
