Twists of Fate by Joana Starnes – Ask me anything & Giveaway

Good Afternoon everyone,

Today I’m very happy to welcome Joana Starnes at From Pemberley to Milton to talk about her upcoming release Twists of Fate

Joana is a dear friend and one of my favorite authors, so I am always eagerly anticipating her releases. In fact, as soon as I finish one of her books, I immediately ask her when she will write the next one because I just wanted to continue getting involved in her writing and her characters. Twists of Fate is a forced marriage scenario, and I am sure Joana will make it an incredible and unforgettable story! She is particularly good at showing the reader the intensity of her character’s feelings, and with a forced marriage scenario, I imagine she will have plenty of scenes to work on that 🙂

Today she is sharing some information about this new book and answering all your questions! So if there is something you’ve always wanted to ask her, go ahead! Check out all the information she is sharing about the new book tto, I am sure you’ll get very curious. All questions will be entered into the giveaway of 2 ebook copies of Twists of Fate

Thank you so much for visiting Joana! I am looking forward to reading and reviewing this book 🙂 And…to visit Pemberley with you once more 😉

P.S – I looooove the book’s cover 🙂

.

Thank you, Rita, for welcoming me today, on the blog tour for my new Pride and Prejudice variation, Twists of Fate.

V3 ToF K cover

I thought I might start by sharing a few titbits about the book, and then if there is anything else you’d like to know, please leave a comment and I’ll try to answer without too many spoilers. If you would like spoilers, that’s absolutely fine too. I can message you privately or email you, and spill the beans.

The idea for Twists of Fate hit me while I was minding my own business and writing a short and cheery story that sprung from a chat that Rita, Glynis and I had at Pemberley.

(Goodness, I can’t believe it’s been over 2 years! Far too long! I do hope we get to meet up at Pemberley again soon!)

(Lyme Park, 4 Feb 2019)

I started writing the cheery story last spring and I was having a wonderful time with it, but then the new idea came and grabbed me, and just wouldn’t let go!

If you haven’t seen the book trailer yet, have a quick peek. The music really, really makes it (thank you, Aaron Kenny, for this exquisite piece!!)

So, the titbits:

Some of the things I hope you’ll be pleased to find in Twists of Fate:

  • Our favourite characters get together very early. They marry a week and a day after the Netherfield ball;
  • The early marriage is all due to Wickham, who ends up helping Darcy more than he knows (and far more than he could possibly wish!);
  • All those who set out to injure our dear couple (including, but not limited to the dastardly Mr Wickham) end up helping them in one way or another, and making their bond stronger;
  • There is angst (of course there’s angst 😀 ), but there are lots of romantic moments in between, and a good dose of besottedness;
  • There is courtship – slow-burn, tantalising courtship – as they tiptoe towards intimacy. On that note, I think this is my most daring book yet. Not explicit, never explicit, but it’s certainly daring!
  • Elizabeth is brave even when she is flummoxed;
  • Our favourite characters learn to open up and talk, really talk, and share their feelings – even Mr Darcy (and he gets over his aversion to dancing, too).
  • Did I mention the besottedness?

2021_07_08 FPTM_ToF_JS_m

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, there are a few things that make me think I’d better buy a helmet, put it on and wait for the shower of turnips:

  • Georgiana speaks out when she shouldn’t;
  • Darcy doesn’t speak out when he should.
  • The book is called Twists of Fate for a whole lot of reasons. Some of them might not be what you expect.

And that’s it from me for now. Thanks for reading, and I’m looking forward to your questions. Please add them to the comments section and I’ll reply asap. Everyone who has a share in the conversation will be entered in the giveaway. But you don’t have to think of a question to enter! If there’s nothing you’d like to ask, please stop by for a chat and a chance to win a Kindle copy of Twists of Fate. There are 2 up for grabs. The giveaway is international and it’s open until 15 Jul 2021. Good luck!

ToF Giveaway x 2_m

Twists of Fate will be released on 22 July and is now available on pre-order.

You can find the pre-order link here

(Another excerpt is posted there for your reading pleasure 🙂 )

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks again, Rita, for welcoming me here today!

What if Mr Collins shocked Elizabeth with his base conduct at the time of his proposal, thus sending her dashing out of her house, and into the arms of Mr Darcy? What if that accidental encounter was witnessed, and impropriety was assumed? What if Mr Darcy was glad of the excuse to marry his heart’s desire – only to have his best hopes blasted within hours of his wedding? What if he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time more than once?

Evil rumours, an early marriage, a dreadful misunderstanding, an old secret and good intentions gone awry. What if ‘I do’ is not the end, but the beginning of the adventure?

Twists of Fate is available for pre-order at:

    LOVED this story and am now rereading it. All of Joana’s stories have been 5 star reviews from me. Her prose cannot be outdone. Loved the video images and music! Best of luck with the release.

    Coucou Joana & Rita!
    Was eagerly waiting for this meeting 🙂
    (Rita can attest too, sorry dear Rita)
    And now… to the serious business of asking questions!
    I had some questions only you waylaid me: cheery story?! As in no angst? No tormenting Darcy? Hmmmm …

    I actually find that I am rather content with whatever delightful morsel (excerpts or snippets of information) you chose to share and just looking forward to the release day 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    • Yep, I was writing a cheery story, with virtually no angst At least that was the plan. And then look what happened 😀 😀

      Thanks so much for your kind words, Mihaela, and for following the blog tour. Two more morsels coming up until Launch Day: an ‘I want to bang their heads together’ morsel and another one to make up for the first. Thanks for putting up with the wait, and with me sporting with your patience!

        I don’t know the proper etiquette and if I may still reply🤭
        But I find I have a question; you said all (most?) baddies manage actually to help them in various ways. Wickham, obviously, the first…
        I was therefore wondering if dear Caro does it as well.. we know she has a way to” help ” Darcy focus and crystallize his ideas (fine eyes, the stroll at Netherfield about the room, after the visit at Pemberley etc…). What would she do now?

    Well obviously this book will be high on my favourites list! I can’t think of any questions about it so I will ask if you are now back to writing our cheery story? Personally I think that Rita and I have been extremely patient, but I will admit that I do love this book so I will manage to be a little more patient! Please don’t enter me in the giveaway Rita! Good luck to everyone else and take care. Hopefully we will be enjoying tea and scones again soon and even more hopefully we will have more wonderful ideas? 🙂

    • I think so too, Glynis!! You and Rita have been even more patient and forgiving than Jane Bennet! Thank you!! And bad me!! I’ll get to it asap.
      I can’t wait to chat with you face to face again! Take care and see you again soon!

    I love that you said you were minding your own business when the story line interrupted you! I am fond of a forced marriage, and it will be fun to see Darcy court Elizabeth. How does Wickham help them in a positive way? That one is hard to imagine. Thank you for the giveaway.

    Liked by 1 person

    • I’m so glad you like the premise, Eva! Oh yes, Wickham helps them a lot, even if he means to be the very opposite of helpful. His dastardly ploy keeps Darcy in Hertfordshire and gets ODC to the altar in no time at all. And he helps with the proposal too. He’ll want to kick himself :)))
      Best of luck in the giveaway and thanks for stopping by to chat!

    Hello Joana, first of all let me thank you for this blog tour of your book. I wait for each new update of it. It’s great to find out some information about the book before reading it.

    I do have a question. When Darcy offers for Elizabeth so early, is he already in love with her? I thought that after Netherfield ball he likes her but not love her.

    Will there be any interactions with Darcy relations? What about Caroline, will we see her in the story?

    Liked by 1 person

    • Hi, Valentina
      Thanks for following the blog tour, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!

      I think it’s safe to say that the coin hasn’t quite dropped yet for Mr Darcy. He thinks it’s an ‘intractable infatuation’ (where’s the eye-roll emoticon when I need it? 😀 ) and is rather glad to find himself honour-bound to offer for Elizabeth.

      I hope you’ll be pleased to hear that we don’t see hide or hair of Lady Cat, but Caroline is around…

      Best of luck in the giveaway and I can’t wait to hear what you think of the story.

    • Oh yes, I forgot about Darcy’s other relations. There is some interaction with them, but not much.

    I couldn’t wait to learn more so I read the excerpt on Amazon. I can even smell the aroma of jasmine and gardenia—favorites of mine. I await their journey to love and happiness.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Thanks for reading the Amazon excerpt, Luisa! I’m so glad that the aroma of jasmine and gardenia is a favourite of yours! Can I tell you how come I came to pick this combination? It’s to do with Jane Austen again, albeit in a roundabout way. A very good friend sent me this ‘Paddywax Library-Jane Austen’ candle for Christmas. It’s gardenia-tuberose-and-jasmine-scented, and it smells AMAZING!! (I still have it on my desk and I keep opening the box for the odd sniff for inspiration :)) ). The poor tuberose was left out of the story because it’s a Victorian flower, but we know it’s there, in the mix.
      Thanks for stopping by and best of luck in the giveaway!

    I look forward to all the “besottedness.” Is this what Darcy does not talk about when he should? I am glad to see that you indicate Darcy does learn to talk things out eventually. Who has the old secret? Darcy? Elizabeth? Or someone else? Joana – I wish you the best of luck with the release and know I will thoroughly this as I have all of your books.

      I used to go to Jane Austen’s house a few times a year (maybe 3-4), to Lyme maybe 1-3 times, to Netherfield 2005 more frequently (it’s closer), but I haven’t been to any of those places since Feb 2020… I really need to do something about it 🙂

    It has romance, it has angst, it has a sweet Darcy who tiptoes around his feelings, his desires, and his new wife, it has misunderstandings (it is Austen!), it has stuff one would have hoped were misunderstandings and it has humor!!!
    What more can I ask?
    Well, I have one request!
    What is this other cheery story? When will it be written?

I think that in many ways JAFF is a state of mind, and thanks to the www and Google Earth we can immerse ourselves in Jane Austen’s England from the comfort of our own sofa, but back in the day when we could move around freely, it was lovely to sit and daydream with pen & paper in some place that reminded me of Austen and P&P, or find inspiration where I least expected. In the writing of this, did you end up having to cut out many words or were the word causalities at the cutting table few? Plus, to go along with that question, was there a particular scene or two that you wish could have stayed? If I remember, there was or will be a deleted scene during the blog tour; however, I was not sure if there were any other scenes in particular that you liked writing and wish you could have kept.

      LOL I love this! ‘Word casualties’ :)) Yes, there were some. I was planning to go in a very different direction halfway through the story. Not with ODC, with Georgiana. But then I thought ‘Never mind, that would make the book even longer, and D & E have more than enough to deal with as it is.’
      I hope you’ll be glad to hear that the parts I took out would have increased the angst and the tension, so we’re better off without them 😉
